Hopefully for real final mousetrap day

Today we must to more things to this mousetrap! Will it ever end?

Originally my plan was to do this stuff yesterday and do ceramics today, but yesterday I basically just decomposed and was useless and only did regular human stuff like laundry, making food, cleaning, and decomposing in my bed. Today I will finish this though! Why is there so much to do??

I also can't find the recording of last classes tutorial- I mean technology is frustrating sometimes so I understand if it vanished into the ether. I should've followed along with my project during class but I was very tired so just watched it and drank tea. Or I could've tried working on this yesterday but it was like I had some mental block that was like, NOPE. Any time before yesterday I was busy as heck and had no time. I feel so dumb.

Anyways, I managed to do the whole "make 2d" thing with my mousetrap but it is just a 2d drawing it doesn't look like an Ikea manual.

Got rid of that for now, made sure that I had two perspective viewports since i keep moving and screwing my main one up. Drew some connecting lines in the nice viewport that I am not allowed to move, even though they aren't aligned in the other ones whatever, we are just doing a 2d thing. Tried following the "Layout + Annotations for Shop Drawings in Rhino" video, but when he does the "new layout" thing my new layout video does not look like his and does not let me specify any type of printer just this "initial detail count" thing and I am like UGH.

Whatever. I re "made2d"'d my thing with better looking dashes. except I deleted that then redid it by drawing the lines on after BUT NOW I CANT SET THE LINE TYPE AS DASHES I am very unhappy.

Since I feel like I can't help anything here, I am just going to set my little measurements. Of course now I realize that I have to space my stuff out more, so my new lines I made and trimmed and attempted to turn into dashes need to be deleted and redone later because they will be wrong when I move things again. Fantastic.

I've put the measurements and now it looks extremely complicated and I definitely can't read it. It looks like trash. I am doing this all wrong I know but I can't figure out how to do it right? I feel like videos are so full of things and I get overwhelmed. I've slept lots and ate good and rested yesterday and like after doing this for a few hours I am exhausted and ready to go to sleep.

Okay, I have gone way back in this Sheehan Wachter's youtube videos to one where he is doing the lineweights and dimensions for shop drawings. I was of the opinion that this would help me, however after going and making a bunch of layers with line weights and colors and things apparently I can't move things over. He's all "select everything and move it to the second lightest line weight." This does not work. It is not locked, but I can not get it to move. I even tried making a copy onto the new layer. it does not want to turn green. Great. Nothing is locked. It just isn't working. Now I can spend an hour or two trying to figure out this thing that should just work but isn't. Love it. I have tried changing my default layer then making the second lightest lineweight (apparently green) invisible and it turns out that no, I have actually changed the layer onto this lineweight layer but its not going to show me it in the color that I have set. Does that mean that it won't care to show me the line weight that I have set it at later and I will have to redo this whole thing?? Probably. This is very annoying.

Now I am feeling like this video is maybe not relevant to what I am doing after all. Great. He's talking about something he did before on yet another video. Do I go back and add even more videos that may or may not be relevant to me? At least I have managed to put those dashed lines in that will connect the staples through everything back into the mousetrap board and they actually want to be the blue colour and dashed. Well, fine then. I also spent (wasted?) some time changing different parts of the mousetrap board to different object layers but they of course arent changing colors or anything so who knows if it works.

After watching more of this video we finally got to the point where he pointed out the "dimaligned" option which is definently a lot cleaner. I am still worried that I will not be able to format this properly every time he goes to that new layout and he has that print option that I do not have. However, I imagine I will just have to cross that hurdle when I get to it again. Hopefully it does not make me have to redo everything.

My little bits and items just have so many bits, especially the treat holder thing. I can't tell if I am not putting in enough dimensions or I am putting in too much.

Now I am caught up with the original video from this guy where he goes to make a new layout and the option thing comes up saying select printer where mine only says initial detail count. I am very angry now. I might see an option where i can do this but it looks like it just wants to do my entire everything thats on my page so I guess I'd better just make a whole new rhino file and only copy in the stuff that I am using for this.

It looks like maybe the print thing saves it in the end. Well, sure. I guess now I have to have a legend with labels? I mean it seems pretty self explanatory and obvious. I wish I had an example. There probably is an example somewhere but I am a bit too dumb right now to know where to look. I feel like it is probably more descriptive at the moment than an Ikea diagram and honestly they are a huge corporation so possibly this is fine?

A mousetrap with instructions seemed kind of absurd so I tried to make the labelling a bit absurd. First I wanted to make it sound like it had been translated from another language but as I was writing it I kind of thought like, maybe a pacifistic alien could only find employment making this and is struggling morally with it, so it's giving weird conflicting vibes.

Now I both feel relieved and a little dumb that I did not realize the print option was a different tab. whoops.

Okay, it has been saved as both an image file and the vectorized PDF file. Good.

THIS IS A JPEG

It doesn't really want to upload my raster PDF.

I went and did the classic, taking my dog for a walk. I ate some food as well. I guess that is good. Oh gosh though there is still so much to do with this.

I went to free pbr to go get slightly better flooring, wallpaper, and wood for the mousetrap. I might just wind up using the wood picture I used for the mousetrap in the beginning though because I live the way it looks better? but who knows. I was hoping they'd have a zinc chromate metal texture, but oh well. I think it's pretty good as it is.

Wow, putting the floor texture down from the .bl file made it way brighter! maybe the mahogany screenshot was secretly a black hole that sucked in light.

The tutorial showed me a couple hints about setting up my render, so why not I will just go for it now. A lot of it seemed good to know in the future, but not maybe the most necessary right now.

Maybe I shouldn'tve picked the highest quality render. Even though I changed some things like the guy from the video suggested it is going to take way too long for something like this.

Oops! My bad. Sunk cost fallacy strikes again?

I guess I will try and make that presentation about this mouse trap. I am leaning into the whole "aliens are explaining it to other aliens" thing.  It's late at night now. I do not know what I was doing this whole time. Staring into space and reading the instructions over and over I guess. I would really like to finish this tonight so that after work tomorrow I can go do ceramics.

I don't know why this is so hard for me, or why it takes so long, or why it feels like I am drowning in it. When I reread this blog it's like just me complaining aha whoops. If you are reading this thanks for tolerating it!

I guess I will just send this blog post and go shovel snow as I wait for this to render. Then I can put all the final renders as  a different blog post like we are supposed to.

More fingers!

Okay I am here once again with hopefully the final prototype after creating a finger with a better range of motion. I tested out the finger ...
